We were at One Utama today and walked pass Sushi Zanmai, which have finally started it's operations..![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZq_45ww3wJa1gDrp3UW9nNOu26nHpALRyGNT6qmvdaYyX87ggZtfjbg88rbTMYWAISLpsETXInWs4PRhXQfnOLTRJoPm37M7ctDP3XLFh5HZOF848tOfg_-mVXCd6hrc43b8sW00sM9SP/s400/P7160199.JPG)
Since it's not too crowded yet, we decided to give Sushi Zanmai a try.
Though Sushi Zanmai has a small area to cook and prepare food (open kitchen concept), I was rather surprised that the food was ready real quick..
The food on the converyor belt looks fresh and beckoning us to take a few plates..
We had some squid nigiri...
This was lightly grilled/ torched on the surface and served with a small dollop of sourish (plum?) puree. The combination was pretty good..at least it wetted my appetite for more goodies ahead..
WF and I always have a weakness for unagi, so it's not surprising we ordered the Stamina Roll...
I'm not sure why it's called Stamina Roll..but it's utterly delicious nonetheless. The centre of the roll was filled with omelette, cucumber stalks and seaweed, while topped with thick slices of unagi. The unagi was fatty and moist, while the sticky sauce complement the roll's ingredients prettily.
WF wanted something soupy to warm our tummies, hence she ordered the Tempura Udon..![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTk88EIQdTK_jjnWLlt7DyKfAXUkDqzMsimKcUr-qbXpDkWXi4UmnIvoiO8CeaonMTXFo7XvtKexyTghv2S6Khloq7LiYG2yN9lIefeFSxo_uT6h0vf6PpHHoor55ig-ElPCoytJSJvZiU/s400/P7160205.JPG)
The broth was just nice, not too salty and the udon were silky smooth, yet al-dente. I find the tempura very tasty as the batter was light and crisp.
The Salmon Ikura (left) and Inari Sakura..
The Salmon and ikura (salmon roe) combo was just average as I could only feel the texture of the raw salmon. Maybe the roe was not that fresh as it just sort of melts away, rather that popping when I bit into it. The inari sakura on the other hand, looks pretty, but was too sweet for my liking. The inari, fish floss and the shitake mushroom ( is was marinated in some sweet sauce) was rather sweetly over-powering.
The soft shell crab maki was next..![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhib_ZJ_O8qiUFIM2SkF5tZwFljtEwo6JY5QQMPeLtMkw-bP5OMCmOQ9-OvRiSTH2UzeiZQKI75-tL31UiAppfeaFJY_BhzzIDg9YLn-oo7nvCyu87eQShqYS31eK8ZIxMEm-RBSyH-NRzd/s400/P7160206.JPG)
This was just mediocre as the soft shell crab we had was slightly over fried; it had a little burnt/ bitter taste..
We were stuffed by then, but WF's sharp eyes saw another inari that the chef was busy preparing just next to our table..
And we asked for a plate of it, which the chef happily obliged..
I assume this is inari soft shell crab (since we didnt ordered from the menu, not sure of the name)..
The colours was beautiful..reminds me of christmas somehow..hehe. The sweet inari goes well with the savoury soft shell crab while the roe enhances it with the popping texture. I like this.
Total bill was RM57.75.
Sushi Zanmai is located at SK9A, Second Floor Highstreet, 1 Utama Shopping Centre (new wing).
