Food Courts, Bangkok Shopping district

Being at Bangkok, for shopping; it was inevitable we'll spend most of our lunchtime at food courts, having quick meals, rest our feet and then continue with shopping.. :D

Some food courts had pretty good food while some...sucks big time..

Platinum Mall food court

Braised pork (knuckle) rice... Something that I had before (at outside stalls), the sauce for this rice is ultra yummy. Goes very well with the preserved vegetables. Most unfortunately, we asked for pork knuckle and we got the whole load of the fats/ skin area. Didnt get any meat :(

Braised goose rice...

The meat was soft, but the sauce was a tad light..Cant really taste the flavour. Average.

Duck noodles in soup..

The soup had some herby flavour to it. A tad too salty for me though. Slices of duck meat were very tender though.

Roasted pork.. Well, it looks like roasted pork. When we ordered, we realised that the whole slab of meat was deep fried. Although the skin was ultra crispy, the meat was way over fried...it was dry and rather hard.

Our favourite from Platinum Mall: Seafood pad thai

You can easily detect the stall...It's the most crowded stall, where they whip up a wicked seafood pad thai. It's the springy noodles, abundant seafood, sweet spicy combo that got all of us hooked from the first moutful. Very scrumptious. I like mine with loads of peanuts, chilli and a dash of lime juice..

Desserts were Shaved iced with our choice of toppings, Mango Sticky rice and Durian Sticky rice..We had the shaved ice with red ruby, red beans and coconut meat. Not very nice as the red ruby was tasteless and everything was very diluted. Bad.

Luckily there's Mango Sticky Rice and Durian Sticky rice.. Both are really good. The mango was extremely sweet and very juicy; the durian; very pungent, just the way i like it :). And the sticky rice was warm and soft, coated with coconut cream. yums..

Suan Lum night bazaar..

The food court at Suan Lum night bazaar is really huge. Alfresco and with live band, tourists visits this place by the truckloads..

We ordered from different stalls, took the overall food pictures as it was extremely dark there and I had to use flash..

The tomyum was diluted and not spicy enough for me. Braised pork was tasty with melt in the mouth meat and gelatinous gravy. Pandan wrapped chicken was pretty good too.

Birds of a feather flock together? In this case, all 3 of these dishes were bad. Green curry was like watery curry soup. Fish cakes still had tiny fish bones in it while the pad thai? I cant remember the taste. Bad, bad, bad..

Big C Food court (opposite Central World/ Isetan)

Rice with egg and basil chicken.. Very tasty and spicy too!

Red Curry fried rice.. Felt like I was conned. Nothing red curry about it, heck, it was rather tasteless. Eating it with salted egg and boiled vegetables did not enhance the flavours at all.

Dry and soup noodles, Sukothai style..

These 2 bowls are very appetising; it's sour, spicy and sweet with every mouthful we take..Multiple layers of texture; crisp, crunchy, chewy, springy all in a bite. I like these 2 noodles tremendously.

Shared a plate of mussel omelette..

Slightly thick with starch, it was still pretty good. The exterior as crisp while the omelette was moist and had quite a lot of mussels. Value for money at RM3 a plate.

When it comes to dessert, it's pretty hard to resist sticky rice..

Alas, the Mango sticky rice here sucks..The sticky rice was quite hard and dry.

The Durian sticky rice fared better..Warm, fragrant and gooey. I like.

Some shaved ice dessert.. We chose red ruby, pumpkin in syrup and some cendol lookalike mix. The pumpkin was really lip smacking and goes well with shaved ice and coconut milk.

Siam Paragon Food court.

A classier looking food court, this place is a hit among the local students. Always packed, the food court is filled with local and international cuisine..

I tried the Prawn Pad Thai and Seafood Tomyum..I did not take the picture, sorry folks! All I can say that it's good; though more expensive compared to other food courts, it's good value for money for the ingredients we get in the noodles.

So if you really want to try some of the street food snacks but are not willing to compromise on hygiene, Siam Paragon's street snacks are pretty decent.
