Izakaya Tamako, Sri Hartamas

We bought Elaine's birthday dinner at Izakaya Tamako last month. Even the very busy and important Jungle Jerry managed to join us for this meal, so this was also a mini gathering for us uni mates :)
Izakaya Tamako is a fuss free, home style japanese restaurant; if you're looking for ambience, then this place is not for you.
Well, that was Andrew's reaction. He saw Izakaya Ichiban opposite and he wanted to go there...It looks much better than Tamako..Oh well, another time then Andrew :p

The agedashi tofu was extremely tasty...The sauce and the seaweed that they used tasted fantastic with the tofu. Wonder what brand they used..hehe
Moriawase Sashimi was next..
Thick, fresh slices of raw fish. Love it.

Grilled pork (buta bara) was a hit among us...The meat has some fatty parts which was grilled to perfection. Lightly salted, the grilled pork was juicy and the sweet onions enhances the over flavours. Delicious.

Oyakodon looks inviting..
It had double egg yolks in it...still runny and golden yellow in colour. The chicken was tender and the rice, completely soaked in the sauce, tasted good when it's all mixed together. Some of them find it rather wet, but I liked it soaked. hehe
The bacon wrapped tomato grill was another hit (of course the grilled pork was still tops for us)
The bacon was grilled until it's slightly crisp and the cherry tomatoes..gosh, the heat from the grill must have cooked the inside though the exterior looks raw..when we bit into it, it just popped and the sweet sourish tomato juice filled our mouth. Delightful combo.
Izakaya Tamako had some weaker areas though...
Which came in the form of unagi roll..
Rice was thick, seaweed too soggy and unagi, too lean..
The soft shell crab roll fared better... The soft shell crab was quite huge, quite a lot of ingredients. But the rice and seaweed was again too soggy for my liking.
Andrew wanted Ramen, which they don't serve for dinners. So he ordered udon with tempura..
Somehow, they served him plain udon.. Before we realised it was tempura-less, half the bowl of noodles was gone, so we didn't ask for a change. It was ok, albeit a tad boring though.
Katsudon was purportedly a crowd favourite.. Looks pretty good and was quite tasty. But nothing to rave about. I prefer the chicken version actually.
2 more skewers of grilled bacon wrap with asparagus and also with enoki mushroom. Both are quite tasty, though I still prefer the grilled pork slices and bacon wrapped tomatoes..
Total bill was RM177.
Overall, a satisfying meal for all of us, and a happy BD girl thanking us for it. We left the restaurant stuffed, but we managed round 2 of something else...which i wont blog about..hehehe..ssshhhh
Izakaya Tamako is located at E-0-10/E-1-10 Plaza Damas, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas, 50480 KL.
