Restaurant Siu Siu, KL

We're going to Taman Seputeh for dinner, Gary said without much explanation.
Must be the famous seafood restaurant on the way to Tian How Temple, i thought to myself
Soon, we were at the restaurant....but Gary continued driving....?!?
And passed by (the road to) Tian How Temple... ?!?
Took a right turn into some dingy dark road...lots of trees, like driving into a small jungle. A quick swerve to the right and we've parked.
Siu Siu was rather hidden (hence also known as Restaurant in the Jungle), I was quite amazed on how big (or shall I say, long?) the restaurant is after stepping through it's relatively easy-to-miss-very-small entrance. Wayne did hint that if we drove further in, we would end up at a cemetary, rather than a restaurant!
Since I've never been to Siu Siu, the ordering of food was left to the guys..
Oh, sorry about the bad photos as the lighting was quite bad (and I dont use flash for my pictures to avoid unnecessary attention ;p).
We had the Japanese style ribs.. I thought it tasted very much like pai guat wong (sweet sour spare ribs) as there was not a hint of 'japanese' in the dish. I was expecting something like teriyaki with a dash of kikoman sauce..hehe. Mediocre dish as the ribs were rather tough..
Homemade taufoo was quite nice.. The texture was silky smooth, it does have some eggy flavour. Sauce base was mince meat with diced long beans, giving a nice balance of flavours to this dish.
The favourite of the night was the fried beehoon..The beehoon was stir fried till dry and very fragrant. Lots of eggs, veges and most importantly, the crunchy, crushed dried shrimp makes this dish really tasty.
The crabs were served last..
We had steamed crabs... The flesh was sweet, the crabs were steamed with ginger, wine and a sprinkling of soy sauce. The base of the plate was filled with steam eggs, sweet as it has absorbed the flavours from the crabs.
The salted egg crabs were just average. I didnt take picture of the stir fried vegetables as it was just average. I can only recall that we paid RM200+ in total, all I remembered was the crabs were expensive at RM118 for 3 crabs (was told the crabs were slightly over 3 kg, but it certainly didnt felt like it).
What Julianne thinks?
Good(for the beehoon and steam crabs) and mediocre for the rest
Restaurant Siu Siu is located at 15-11, Lorong Syed Putra Kiri, KL.
